Martin Brooks
Course Organiser
Martin is based in Sheffield, with his wife Lynsey, son Samuel and daughter Robyn. After completing a degree in Mechanical Engineering at the University of Sheffield he attended the Academy of Equine Dentistry, USA in 2002. He was certified in 2003 and has attended for at least 10 days each year to complete CPD.
Martin passed the DEFRA/RCVS approved exam in the UK in 2006 and represented the WWAED (UK) on the Veterinary Activities Committee for LANTRA in developing the National Occupation Standards for equine dentistry. He is currently a member of BAEDT.
Martin has ridden since 5 years old in a variety of disciplines, being a member of local riding clubs and Rockwood Harriers Pony Club. The highlight so far was representing the UK Polocrosse team in the 2007 World Cup in Australia, coming second. He currently plays polo at Leadenham Polo Club.
Deborah Atkinson
Stall Leader
Deborah started her training as an EDT in 2006 and attended the American School of Equine Dentistry.
In the following years, she attended the Academy of Equine Dentistry in Idaho and was certified with her international examination in 2011.
Debs has since passed the BAEDT/BEVA equine dental certification and is a full member of BAEDT. She has a very successful business working full-time as an EDT in the North East of Scotland.
Charlotte Cambridge

Charlotte has been a keen horsewoman since she was 10yo competing from Pony Club to British Eventing Intermediate level. This sparked her interest in pursuing a career with horses. She graduated from Nottingham Trent University in 2008 with a First Class Honours in BSc (Hons) Equine Sports Science. Charlotte’s thesis ‘Investigating the depths of secondary dentine above the nerve pulps in equine cheek teeth of differing ages’ received runner-up in the Eqvalan Equine Thesis of the year in 2008 and was published in the Equine Veterinary Journal in 2010. This fuelled her interest to become an equine dentist and led to her attending the Academy of Equine Dentistry, Idaho where she was certified in 2011. She has since passed the UK exam in 2015 to become BEVA/BVDA approved and is a full member of the BAEDT. Sponsored by Dearsons Equine she regularly demos their dentistry equipment around the country.
Dan Astle-Carter
Stall Leader
Dan is based in North Yorkshire and has enjoyed training and practical experience all over the country with highly reputable equine dental practitioners, from the Donkey Sanctuary at Sidmouth, the West Country, racing yards in Oxford, Birmingham, Yorkshire to the Scottish borders and Orkney.
After completing his BSc(Hons) Equine Dental Science in 2007. He then sat the B.E.V.A. / B.V.D.A. Exam in 2008 and then joined the B.A.E.D.T.
In his spare time Dan is a horse owner himself with over 15 years experience of bringing on young horses and co-running an equestrian centre on the North Yorkshire Moors. Dan has been a keen show jumper and event rider for many years and enjoys pleasure rides and hacking.
Carolann Shaw
Stall Leader
Carolann is a full-time EDT covering the northwest of England. Her training first started at the TriDent Equine Dentistry School in September 2011 which then led to her going to the Academy of Equine Dentistry in Glens Ferry, Idaho to complete two courses. She then wanted to concentrate on becoming qualified in the UK so carried on training with a TriDent. Carolann then was offered a full-time position working with Martin Brookes Equine Dental Services which she then did for two years. In those two years, she passed the stall leaders exam at TriDent and became a student member of the British Association Of Equine Dental Technicians and began building up case studies. Carolann passed her theory exam in 2016 and her practical exam in 2017 and is now a full member in the B.A.E.D.T.
Carolann has ridden horses since 5 years of age and thoroughly enjoys working with them.
Marcus Headland
Stall Leader
Marcus has ridden from a very young age taking part in most disciplines from Pony Club as a child, to Endurance, then enjoying hunting during the winter months. After leaving school and working in the family electrical business Marcus wanted a career in equine dentistry.
In 2010 he started dentistry and has been lucky to work with some of the best edts in the UK. Over the last few years Marcus attented TriDent as a student working up to a stall leader. He’s since passed his WWAED Exam. In recent years he’s been lucky to travel to Europe spending time with the best edts in the world.
